The Lord of the Rings movie is not appropriate for younger
children due to the battle scenes and scary characters.
The rating is PG-13.
There are many other ways to
expose your child to Tolkien, including dramatic readings by
NPR, and other websites geared toward the younger set.
A new
children's biography of Tolkien, written by Canadian
Christian Michael Coren, should soon be available in the
United States. J.R.R. Tolkien: The Man Who Created the
Lord of the Rings (Stoddart), is a "delightfully written
and well-illustrated account of Tolkien's life from his
parents' courtship to his death at home near Oxford."
